Our foolishly busy April

This post is a bit overdue. We have had a busy month, and now I'm not sure I can remember everything that's happened. So I'll try to set it down in the usual boring, person-by-person list. Then after this, I'll try to be better at updating stuff more frequently, so you can get DAILY news and excitement from your favorite family. You know you've missed us!

Bruce--Busy at work. And working out. He's finally caught the fitness bug (again) that left him over the winter. Really, I think he's just afraid I'll be able to do more push-ups than him one of these days soon. He's the new Young Men Secretary in our ward, which means (hopefully) more flexibility about which activities and camping trips he goes to. It also means more meetings. Finally, Bruce successfully drove through a huge potential snowstorm (which never showed up) in Wyoming yesterday. I think he was almost hoping for something to break up that long, flat, monotonous drive. We're glad he's home.

Me--I've been helping with Easter parties, preparing for birthday parties, and doing a lot of laundry. To keep my sanity (though it means I get behind on the laundry) I spend many hours each week running, biking, and swimming--my triathlon is right around the corner in four weeks! Sadly, it has been too cold and wet all month to do much outdoor biking (but tomorrow looks good), and our outdoor practice swim keeps getting postponed. But--exciting--I managed to swim a full 1/2 mile without stopping in the indoor pool! I'm kind of amazed at that one. I also managed to pull off a few April Fools' Day stunts for the family (in addition to breaking our digital camera). Bruce messed up this first one by coming home early (it would have been funnier if I hadn't been in the house at the time), but this is what he found:

Really, it's not me! The boys helped me stuff some pants and shoes and they thought it was hilarious. I kept doing a double-take every time I walked by! Then for dinner, the boys got these:

Meatloaf cupcakes with mashed potato frosting. They look tasty, don't they? Sammy and Riley didn't realize it was a joke, and thought they were just gross cupcakes. But once we scraped the potatoes off, they loved the meatloaf. Sigh. I just hope their senses of humor mature a little before next April 1.

Sammy--Currently is aching to take karate lessons, which is too bad because we've already signed him up for t-ball. His birthday is next week and he's been calling himself the birthday boy all month. And acting like it too.

Riley--He's a little emotionally volatile these days. Bruce keeps reminding him that we don't understand "whine-ese" around here. He has become my best little singer in Primary, and has even memorized the 13th Article of Faith (Sammy has too).

Zeke--His brown eyes are changing color daily (just like dad's). Currently, they've got a ring of grey-blue around the outside, fading to greenish, then golden brown in the middle. He speaks his mind all of the time, especially with important words like "No!" and "Let go!" His two favorite people these days are Grandma Barber and Grandma Jacobs. We know both of the grandpas are trying to claim their spot in his affections by sneaking him cookies and treats. One of these days it will start working.
